Hi, my name is Grayce Shealy. I’m 20 years old and I have 3 brothers. Trevor (21), Peyton (18), Logan (14). Growing up, I had always been close with my mom since we’re the only two girls in the house. We always went out together and I would always be around her. Courtnie (my mom) always lit up the room when she walked in. I know people always say that, but with her, it’s true. Anytime I saw my mom, I felt home. She always made sure to be there for us, and she was always thinking about her children and Nick (her husband, my dad) before herself. Anytime she’d see something at the store she thought we’d like, she’d just get it anyway because she knew how to make us happy.

Unfortunately, on 8/5/2025, our whole family's lives changed forever. My dad had brought my mom to the ER the night before to try and get her medication filled because Courtnie had been acting odd for the past couple of days. She had been sleeping for days on end and she wouldn’t talk to anyone. The doctors kept her overnight to give her a CT scan because her WBC count was low. They found a massive tumor on the left side of her brain. They had to do emergency surgery soon after we got to the hospital Tuesday morning. The tumor is cancerous, a Glioblastoma or Glioma. The doctors haven’t told us the true kind of Glioma yet. It’s the size of a baseball with the core the size of an egg, and the doctors said it’s the most aggressive recurring cancer she could have. The biopsy report still has to come back this week, hopefully, to determine the exact answer, but after that is when we know the true plan for further treatment. I miss my mom so much and I just want to hear her laugh again.

Update on 10/1/25: Mom has been home for a couple weeks now, around a month. She’s been becoming more independent. Mary Free Bed comes to the house three times a week for Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy. My Dad let my long term boyfriend, Nathaniel, move in to help take care of Mom and the house and because he wants me to live there as well.
Mom was supposed to start radiation and chemo my birthday 9/23/25, but started the day after.
Courtnie still isn’t back to her full self, but she’s trying her hardest everyday. Sometimes it’s hard for here to think positive, she gets into a dark headspace sometimes and it creates a negative energy towards everyone, she takes it out with anger. But we know it’s just because she’s worried. My mom is still my mom and I’m trying my hardest everyday to make sure she knows we love her.
Please keep her in your prayers for she is a Gods child and He loves her with all of His heart
