Support Courtney's Journey After Hurricane Evacuation
Donation protected
I’m Heidi! I ended up as Courtney’s volunteer doula in Charlotte NC. Courtney was 40 weeks pregnant with a breech baby and her cesarean section scheduled the next day in Asheville when the hurricane hit. In Black Mountain, every road leading to her home collapsed and was part of a landslide trapping her there- terrified and unsure how to delivery a baby on her own- especially a breech baby. She was able to hike to higher ground and a neighbor was able to radio for help since all cell service was down. A medical helicopter arrived and evacuated her to Asheville while she left her husband and 3 yo child stranded on the mountain. Asheville quickly realized they couldn’t help with the whole hospital working on a generator and no running water. So she was once again air lifted to Charlotte.
So far we have provided Courtney with housing, a doula, some food staples and the essentials for newborn care and cesarean recovery. But there is no end in sight for when she could make it back home.
We are raising money (and supplies locally) to help this family from the disaster of the WNC hurricane Helene trauma!
If you feel moved to help Courtney and Justin, please donate! The funds will be used to pay for the utilities for the donated house, food, childcare, and everything from clothing to toilet paper. She arrived here by helicopter with only pajamas on.
They need everything.
Baby girl was born safely today 10/2 via cesarean.
