Support Courtney in loving memory of Nick Pike
Donation protected
In 2016, my incredible daughter Courtney found the love of her life, Nick Pike. As a parent, it was a joy to witness her support and be supported by someone as wonderful as Nick, as anyone who knew him would agree that he was a truly special individual. I was honored to welcome Nick into our family as my future son-in-law.
Courtney’s family and friends watched and celebrated as she and Nick began to build a beautiful life together: buying a home, starting new careers, planning their wedding next April, and investing for their future.
On November 20, 2022, while Courtney was visiting family for Thanksgiving, the hope and excitement she had for their promising years ahead came to a devastating crash. She received the news that no young person should ever have to hear. Nick had passed away. Unexpectedly, tragically, and untimely.
The suddenness of Nick’s death has sadly put Courtney's home in danger. Nick was a healthy young man in his 30s and had not planned his estate or set up life insurance. Together he and Courtney became homeowners in 2018, and just this past year they had purchased two rental properties by accessing all of the equity in their primary home, as an investment for their future. Because of unprecedented interest rate increases, Courtney’s loan repayment for her home equity loan is rapidly skyrocketing, and will increase at least 250% from its current amount in April 2023.
Courtney’s single income cannot cover these costs, and she is unable to sell one of the rentals until the market bounces back (which will still be insufficient to cover the payments) In other words, she is on the verge of losing her home. The best way to mitigate the alarming adversity of these rising interest rates is to shrink her home equity loan balance as much and as quickly as possible.
I am incredibly grateful to every single person who has reached out to Courtney and our family and asked how they can support her while she grieves this unimaginable loss. Just as we all prepared to gather around Courtney and Nick to celebrate their new life together at their wedding, I encourage all of us to show up with the same fervor to support Courtney in her time of serious need – by helping her pay down the balance on her home equity line of credit, allowing her to remain in her home.
Courtney is a strong, responsible, kind, and resilient woman, and I know that with a little help from her community, she will get back on her feet.
We are donating $5,000 in an effort to jump-start this campaign and begin to raise at least $50,000 for Courtney. The line of credit is $180,000, so we will continue to work towards that goal as long as necessary.
No amount is too small! Every dollar makes a difference. If you are unable to donate at this time, please post to your social media to help reach as many as possible. Thank you for honoring the home that Courtney and Nick worked so hard to build, and for supporting Courtney in her next chapter.
Thank you for your support,
