Support Cory’s Recovery Journey
Hi, my name is Chrissy, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my brother, Cory. On Wednesday, March 19, Cory experienced a medical emergency at work. He suddenly passed out, and while we’re still unsure whether it was a seizure or something else, but he fell straight back and hit his head bad. He was rushed to Firelands Hospital in an ambulance, where doctors worked to stabilize him. After a CT scan revealed brain bleeding, he was immediately life-flighted to Cleveland MetroHealth for emergency surgery.
During surgery, doctors had to remove part of his skull to reduce swelling and control the bleeding. Unfortunately, the swelling didn’t improve as hoped, so they inserted a probe to monitor the pressure in his brain. While the probe has since been removed, Cory remains heavily sedated, and we are waiting for signs of progress. He now has 38 staples in his head from the surgery, a painful reminder of just how serious this injury is.
Meanwhile, our family has been doing everything we can to be by his side. Our mom, Cindy, was visiting me in Oregon when this happened. We couldn’t get a flight out of Bend, so we drove three hours to Portland, took a red-eye, and faced multiple delays before finally making it to Cleveland. It’s been an emotional and overwhelming time especially for our mom, and we are still unsure of what the future holds.
Right now, we are focused on the next steps—getting Cory to breathe on his own and slowly waking him up to assess the extent of his brain injury. This type of recovery is long and unpredictable. We don’t know what his rehabilitation will look like, how long it will take, or what challenges he will face.
What we do know is that Cory will be out of work for the foreseeable future, and medical expenses—including the life-flight and intensive care—will be significant. We’re asking for support to help ease the financial burden on him and our family during this uncertain time. If you are able to contribute, any amount would mean the world to us. If you can’t donate, we simply ask that you keep Cory in your thoughts—send good vibes, prayers, or whatever positive energy you can.
Cory turns 29 on March 27, and while this isn’t the way any of us imagined celebrating, we are holding onto hope for his recovery. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support during this incredibly difficult time.
With gratitude,
Chrissy & Family
