Support Cory’s Brain Tumour Removal

Donation protected
If you’re like me, you’re likely sitting in shock after reading that headline. Cory’s recent diagnosis has caught us all a bit off guard.

Since his tumour was discovered following an MRI on February 4th, 2022, Cory has been consulting with the doctors at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. He is awaiting confirmation of his removal surgery which has been tentatively scheduled for end February or early March 2022.

While attempting to grapple with the fresh news regarding his health, Cory has also been concerned about how he will continue to support his girlfriend, Jessica, and 15 month old son, Owen, while he remains out of work. Letting him focus on his recovery without the burden of financial worries is the best support we can all provide.

Due to the few details known about his recovery at this time, Cory does not know when he may be able to return to work, and Jessica may be required to reduce her own work hours in order to take on a caregiver role following Cory’s surgery. Your generous donation will go towards helping Cory and Jessica with rent, utilities, transportation costs, childcare, groceries, and other household needs. Donations of any size are so greatly appreciated and truly do make a difference in the lives of this wonderful family.

If you would like to know specifics on Cory’s health, please continue reading below:

This past summer, Cory started showing a few symptoms that presented in the form of strange muscle spasms, sudden numbness, and chronic headaches. His symptoms started out as sporadic and progressed to multiple times a day. Cory prides himself on being a tough guy who doesn't complain about much, so after several months of these increasingly concerning symptoms, Jessica was finally able to convince him to speak with his doctor. After pushing further for answers, Cory was able to get an MRI and consult with a neurosurgeon.

He had initially attributed his symptoms to a pinched nerve in his neck, but reviewing his MRI results showed a growth approximately 4.5-5cm round in the frontal lobe on his brain's right side.

As it turns out, the symptoms Cory has been experiencing have actually been localized seizures with varied severity. Since his symptoms have progressed, he has had two tonic-clonic seizures resulting in a loss of consciousness for several minutes. His most recent seizure (which occurred on February 8th) required emergency care, so it is imperative that the tumour be removed as quickly as possible. He has been set up with an excellent care team, and the doctors will attempt to remove the tumour in its entirety, but we're unable to know exactly how much can be removed until he's within the tissue. Once it's been removed, we'll be able to confirm that it is exactly what it appears to be, and what his follow-on prognosis/recovery will entail.

We ask that you give as generously as you are able, and help out Cory and his family. He's an incredible father, supportive partner, loving brother & son, devoted doggy dad, dedicated teammate, and overall a great friend. Thank you.
