It is with great sorrow and sadness to announce that Cortney has lost her battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully with her husband Dustin and mother Kim at her side on July 30th.
She was a light to all that knew her. She touched so many lives as a partner, friend, nurse, and in the end a patient. She was a beloved daughter, sister and aunt. She was a leader, passionate nurse, fierce friend, a devoted wife, and most of all, a dedicated mother.
Please consider donating to her fund, as the family navigates through this difficult time.

Hello, my name is Heather Barnard. I have been a nurse working with Cortney Henry at KU for little over 4 years now. I first "met" the nurse I now call my best friend when someone mistakenly called her name to me from behind. Since then, we have been each other's work doppelgangers and fast friends. However, I am only half the nurse she is. Those that know Cortney know her as the wonderful, smart, compassionate, fiery nurse that she truly is. She started at KU in 2019 and has been a Unit Coordinator (charge nurse) for the last 3 years at night in the Main PACU. Many have come to know her as the person in charge at night, a nurse that many lean on for support, answers all the questions, and a nurse that can handle any type of patient that comes through our doors. She is smart, funny, and cares about her nurses and advocates for patients.
Now our dear friend is the patient and in need of support. In October, shortly after a routine sinus surgery, a rare cancer was found. Cortney was diagnosed with Sinonasal Teratocarcinosarcoma (SNTCS). This is rare, malignant, and aggressive tumor that spreads into the cranial cavity.
Treatment for Cortney was started just days after the diagnosis. Because of the aggressiveness of the cancer, she has to be equally aggressive with treatment. Cortney has started chemotherapy on 11.22.24. She will continue with 4 cycles of chemotherapy, one every 21 days, until the tumor is hopefully small enough to operate on. Each time she receives treatment; she will have to be hospitalized.
Cortney has husband, and two girls, aged 11 and 15. I humbly ask for help to support her and her family during this time of need. Any amount you may have to offer would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping to raise funds for things like meals, cleaning services, hospital bills, and anything else the family may need. Please consider donating to Cortney's fund. If you prefer gift cards, please let me know.
Thank you
