Aloha!
My name is Corrie Gray and I am a big wave surfer originally from New Jersey. I moved to the beautiful shores of Oahu 6 years ago and it's where you can find me from here on out! I am incredibly excited to share that I’ve been nominated for Surfer Magazine’s Big Wave Challenge 2023/2024 in the category of Women’s Biggest Paddle Wave! Getting nominated for this prestigious event, often hailed as the “Oscars of Big Wave Surfing,” is a surreal honor, and I’m one of only three women from around the world in the running for this award. I’m still pinching myself!
The awards ceremony will take place in Nazaré, Portugal, home to the largest, gnarliest waves ever surfed, and this nomination marks a pivotal moment in my career as an emerging big wave surfer. The opportunity to stand alongside the top surfers from around the world is something I never imagined so soon—and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
However, getting to Nazaré and making the most of this opportunity comes with significant costs. As an unsponsored surfer, I’m faced with covering travel expenses, essential gear, and the necessary safety support, including a jet ski team to ensure my safety in these new and massive waves. These costs are overwhelming on my own.
That’s why I’m reaching out to ask for your support. With your help, I can proudly represent the incredible North Shore surfing community, showing the talent, grit, and aloha spirit that makes our home so special.
