Help Support My Lung Transplant Journey
In 2021, I received a life-changing diagnosis: Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). It was discovered incidentally during a calcium scoring test, though in hindsight, I had likely been experiencing symptoms for years and attributing them to other causes.
IPF is a progressive, irreversible disease that causes scarring of the lungs. As the scarring worsens, the lungs stiffen, making it increasingly difficult to breathe. There is no known cause, and no cure—only treatments that may slow progression. I’ve spent the last four years on medication, and for the last two years I participated in a clinical trial for a new medication that has since received FDA approval.
Despite these efforts, my disease has continued to progress. I now require oxygen with any activity, and it became clear that the next step in my journey is a double lung transplant.
After months of evaluations, testing, and consultations, I was found to be otherwise healthy and an excellent candidate for transplantation. On December 1, 2025 at 4:28pm, I was officially listed for a double lung transplant. Now, we are waiting for the call that a match is available.
Once I receive the transplant, I will spend 2–4 weeks at UW Madison Hospital, followed by 1–3 months living in Madison so I can safely recover close to the hospital. Because of the severity of my condition, I have had to take a leave of absence from work for an undetermined amount of time, and my goal is to eventually return when I am able. Todd will also need to take time off work to be my primary caregiver.
This situation brings not only emotional and physical challenges, but also a significant financial burden. Your support will help us cover:
• Loss of income for both Todd and I
• Travel expenses for us and our family
• Ongoing bills and living expenses during recovery
Any amount—big or small—will make a meaningful difference as we navigate this difficult but hopeful chapter. Your generosity will help us focus on healing, breathing easier, and getting back to the life we love.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support, prayers, and encouragement.
We truly cannot do this without you.
