My name is Corey, and if you’ve ever stopped by Vesper for a drink, chances are we’ve shared a laugh or two. Beyond working behind the bar, I’m also a film worker in craft services—a role that’s strikingly similar to serving, where my whole job revolves around taking care of people, keeping everyone fed, hydrated, and smiling on set. Taking care of others is what I do best, but right now, I find myself in a position where I have to ask for a little help getting back on my feet.

Recently, my life changed in an instant on my way home from work. I was riding my e-scooter when a Grady Hospital ambulance turned into the bike lane and struck me head-on. Yes, you read that correctly—I was taken out by the very vehicle meant to save lives. Irony at its absolute finest. While the ambulance technically won the showdown, I’m a fighter. Unfortunately, the collision left me with a broken leg and severe knee injuries, requiring emergency surgery where doctors had to insert screws and metal rods to piece my leg back together.

Now, I’m facing a long, difficult, and admittedly pretty boring road to recovery. My doctors expect that I will be completely unable to walk or work for approximately three months while I heal and undergo physical therapy. Whether on set or behind the bar, my entire livelihood depends on being on my feet, and I don’t receive paid time off or disability benefits. Three months without income while facing unexpected medical expenses is an overwhelming situation. Despite the wild sequence of events and the long road ahead, I'm staying in high spirits, keeping a good attitude, and keeping my sense of humor intact through it all.

Asking for help has never come easily to me, but right now I truly need it. The funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward mounting medical bills and surgical costs (because iron rods aren't cheap), rent and monthly utilities while I'm unable to work, groceries, and daily essentials. It will also help cover care for my dog, Aalia—who is thrilled to have me home 24/7, though she feels a bit betrayed by the lack of walks and remains mildly alarmed by my new wheelchair. Finally, it will assist with transportation to and from physical therapy, as I am completely unable to drive for the foreseeable future (and my friends have officially banned me from e-scooters anyway).

Every single dollar raised goes directly to helping me cover these expenses so I can focus entirely on healing without the constant stress of financial hardship.
