Support Corey's Journey to Recovery
Donation protected
Meet Corey – adventurer, animal lover, rock climbing route setter, and aspiring software engineer. Corey is a Montgomery County, Maryland resident who lives with his two rescue bunnies, Bart and Cordelia. He spends his free time rock climbing, exploring nature, and taking care of his fluffy friends. Corey is also a part-time student pursuing his certificate for software engineering.
However, on February 20th, Corey's life took a dramatic turn. He was rushed to the hospital after attempting to swallow an Ibprophen and feeling it get stuck in his esphogus. It turned out that Corey has an abnormally narrow esophagus, and years of food rubbing on the esophagus caused the area to become fragile and,
the Ibprophen was the “straw that broke the camel’s back.” It caused Corey's esophagus to rupture, creating a hole and resulting in a life-threatening situation.
Corey underwent a complex and difficult surgery to repair the hole in his esophagus by one of the few thoracic surgeons in the DC-Metro area. There was only a 30-40% chance of success due to the complexity of the procedure and unfortunately, the hole was not fully repaired. Corey had to undergo another surgery to install a feeding tube this way he could rest at home while the hole closes up. Since then he has been using feeding tubes for his nutrition and hydration and is in severe pain.
Corey's recovery is a long and arduous journey, and he is unable to work until he is fully healed. Prior to the incident, Corey was only working part-time as a rock-climbing route setter while trying to delve into the world of software engineering. Because of his situation and, despite having insurance, the overwhelming costs associated with his medical treatment have left him struggling to make ends meet.
We are asking for your help to raise funds to cover Corey's medical and living expenses and provide some relief during this difficult time. Every donation, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated and will help Corey on his path to recovery. Your support will allow Corey to focus on his healing and resume his pursuit of a software engineering career in the future. Thank you for taking the time to read Corey's story, and we appreciate any support you can provide.
