Corey here, thanks for taking the time to check in with me. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I have to surrender my current car to my friend who I’ve been borrowing it from. I greatly appreciate her for helping me out so much over the past year.

I work with 3 adults with Autism who depend on me to have a car. It’s taken me a long time to finally have 3 great clients I look forward to working with, and I hate to lose my job or have my hours significantly reduced. I just moved into a new place, and I’m still getting caught up on moving expenses. I unfortunately don’t have the capital or credit to purchase a car on my own.

I need a dependable vehicle, AWD, good gas mileage, a car that can get me anywhere in town or to the beach, high enough clearance I won’t break an axle hitting a pothole. I’ve been eyeballing Hondas, Toyotas, Subarus, or maybe a Ford Escape.

I was told about 2 months ago I’d have a new place and a vehicle. Turns out that person was a bit of a mess and led me astray, so after 2 promised vehicles were stolen and crashed and no home for me to move into, I had the rug pulled out from under me. Hard lesson to learn, and trusting someone not in their right mind can have a domino effect. I just hope they get the right help and support they need.

I’ve asked for plenty of help in the past and I know many of my friends are also going through a hard time as well. I’m grateful for all the help people have given throughout the years.

Nonetheless, Sloane, my 13-year-old diabetic cat, and I need to survive. After suffering from PTSD and navigating life as a neurodivergent with a touch of the 'tism, it can be challenging.

I do rely on a good car because I work as a mentor for adults with disabilities, and it's a very rewarding job with daily challenges, but a gratifying feeling when making a difference in other people's lives. Most of the folks I work with are on the spectrum. About 3 years ago, I came to the self-realization of being autistic. It was a life-altering experience for me, and so much more of my life has made more sense. So, working with people I can identify with is an incredible feeling. It's like knowing a secret language; it's like holding a key to doors you didn't know existed. Instead of being just an eccentric, it becomes empowering, and at times you can feel like a superhero or having some sort of superpower.

So with that said, anyone with a car or who wants to donate to a car fund, I’d be beyond grateful.
