If you know Corey and Ashley, you know they’re the kind of couple who make life more enjoyable just by being present. Corey’s the life of the party, always talking, laughing, and bringing people together and Ashley is his quick-witted partner, always somehow able to find humor even in the hardest times.
On October 1, their world flipped upside down when doctors confirmed that Corey has squamous small cell carcinoma of the oropharyngeal cavity, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. After an unexpected ER visit on October 6, his treatment was fast-tracked. Since then, every day has brought new tests, shifting treatment plans, and tough decisions, forcing them to take this journey one day at a time.
At home in Sacramento, Ashley is juggling it all: caring for Corey, working, parenting their daughter Lola, and looking after Eden, a friend's daughter who they are caring for through kinship placement. She’s balancing doctor visits, school drop-offs, and sleepless nights with her trademark humor, grit, and (by her own admission) a metric ton of coffee.
In Ashley’s own words:
“I drink a metric ton of coffee, so even five bucks helps out. Don’t feel like you have to make a massive donation — literally even cups of coffee are helping me out right now.”
Unfortunately, cancer treatment in the U.S. is incredibly expensive, even with insurance.
Recent studies show that the average cost for oropharyngeal cancer care ranges from $74,000 to nearly $200,000, depending on the treatment combination used. These numbers don’t include the hidden costs like time off work, childcare, transportation, and basic living expenses.
To help ease the burden, we’re setting a goal of $50,000.
This will go toward:
- Hospital and specialist bills not covered by insurance
- Medications, feeding supplies, and home care equipment
- Lost income while Ashley takes unpaid time to care for Corey
- Childcare and transportation during hospital stays
- Rent, groceries, and day-to-day living costs
If you can give, please do. If not, sharing this page or sending a few kind words means the world. Every ounce of support, every cup of coffee, every message, every donation, helps this amazing family keep moving forward through the fight of their lives.
