We are Coral and Michele Pompei. We moved to Walla Walla in late 2018 following the purchase of the Walla Walla Bread Company. We left behind our successful wholesale bakery, The Bakehouse 55, to start fresh in the small town of Walla Walla. We brought decades of experience and practiced hands to our corner on Main Street. We were there every single day, crafting the very breads and pastries that sold out faster than we could make them.
Unfortunately, we had to close our doors in May of 2024. The Post-COVID economy coupled with a crippling rising interest rate made it impossible to align our numbers. The closure of the Walla Walla Bread Company and the sale of our coveted equipment and belongings was impossible to watch. We lost our way, and wondered what the future may hold for our family.
After a few months to think and recover, we are BACK and ready to pick ourselves up. We are ready to begin again, and build ourselves a legacy that we know will last. We have created a plan, which will allow us to focus on our true abilities and provide the best possible products to the Walla Walla Community. We will start small, and likely will stay small. Our bread will be small batch, cold fermentation sourdough. We will resume our relationship with wholesale accounts, including local Walla Walla restaurants, wineries and tasting rooms.
We humbly ask for help to get ourselves up and running. We will start with the bare essentials and grow from there. We are ready, once more, to take the leap and commit to the community of the Walla Walla valley. We are thankful for the support of our community and for the chance to earn your business once again.
