Support Cook's Recovery from Severe MRSA
Donation protected
I've been a cook at The Chart Room since July 2019. On June 23rd, 2024 I was airlifted from Crescent City to Napa to treat 87 active MRSA abscesses. After a month of antibiotic treatment and two surgeries, one on my right wrist and one on my prostate I was transferred back to Crescent City. After being home for a week I checked myself back into Sutter Coast hospital with extreme back pain and blurred vision. I was airlifted to Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento and had my left eye treated for a MRSA infection and treated successfully. I then was diagnosed with more MRSA infections in my spine. After spinal surgery to clean up the infection on July 28th, I awoke paralyzed from my chest down. After further complications, on August 15th I underwent another spinal surgery to remove a portion of my rib attached to my T-8 vertebrae where the source of the initial MRSA infection was hiding and spreading from. This surgery successfully eliminated the last source of MRSA but I still awoke paralyzed.
Since then I've gradually started gaining sensation and slight movement in my legs and feet. I was transferred back to Crescent City on August 30th where I'm currently being treated until at least September 26th. I'm still wheelchair bound depending on how Acute Rehab goes over the next few months. At 50 years old, this is my first time ever being hospitalized and also without income over the past 2.5 months now. I've applied for temporary disability but the EDD is slow to process the claim. My partner and I have no other resources and are facing eviction by mid September.
My goal is to be walking again by Thanksgiving and back to work at The Chart Room by Christmas 2024. Any and all help we can foster from the community would be such a God send and I've never sought charity or handouts before. I appreciate the community here in Crescent City greatly and am receiving the BEST OF CARE here at Sutter Coast hospital currently. God Bless America and I'm sorry for being in this situation but my spirit is strong and I'm highly motivated to recover from this 100%!!!
