Hello friends and family. We have been thrown a huge curve ball in our life surrounding Conor.
Conor was showing early signs of sickness on Oct 22nd. We didn’t think anything of it at the time but slowly he became worse. Michael took him to his regular vet on Monday the 3rd. They gave him a nausea shot and medicine to take at home for 4 days. He came home that day and was fine all day Monday and Tuesday. Come Wednesday he refused to eat or drink. He wouldn’t even take the nausea pills with sandwich meat. (Which is his favorite). We called the same vet and asked if we could bring him in. They said the earliest availability was Thursday morning. We went Thursday morning and got him sedated and an xray. They found fluids in his stomach and said his intestines looked a little off but wanted to do an “explore” surgery. They told us to make a decision on the spot because they were short staffed and would have to do the surgery within 20 minutes. We did make a decision about 20-30 minutes later because the doctor left and didn’t come back until around that time. They said it was too late and they had other appointments to take and recommended us to an emergency vet center to do the surgery. We got Conor unsedated and brought him the the emergency vet.
They did an ultrasound and wanted to go forward with surgery as it seemed there was something in his stomach or intestines. Conor then started freaking out and unable to control his breathing so they got him an iv and put him in the oxygen cube. We said bye and left as they were going to start abdominal surgery. The found a foreign object in his small intestine and pushed it into his stomach; then cut his stomach and removed it, along with 1 liter of fluids and a chunky consistency of food like. Later on his surgery ended at 11pm (Thursday) and they said he seemed fine. And was hanging the anesthesia okay. They kept him in the oxygen cube over night and weened him off during the day. They said he had ate a meatball and went pee. Was doing okay. We went down to visit at 1pm (Friday) and they said we couldn’t see him because he was off the oxygen and didn’t want him to get hyped up. So we spoke to the doctor for 5-10 minutes and left. Later on they called and said Conor started to freak out and they need to sedate him again to control his breathing.
We asked if we could take Conor home to help with his breathing as he’s stressed out and would be better at home. The doctors said they were worried about his breathing because of his breed and being off anesthesia but felt okay enough to let Michael take him home.
He brought him home around 6:45pm and Conor was doing fine, he was breathing somewhat heavy but moderate. Then around 9:20 ish Conor tried to get up and started hyperventilating again and couldn’t control his breathing. His gums were turning purple and Michael freaked out and took him into the emergency room (a different one from the place he had his surgery) and they immediately admitted him. Hooked him up to oxygen and an iv.
He’s now at the 2nd emergency vet to be in care. During this process we have called out of work and missed out on money to help with this. His first bill was 480$, then 620$ and for his surgery bill was 11k.
Now his bill so far for where he’s at right now is 3k. We are wanting to do whatever it takes to help our loved son.
A little back story: Conor was brought into Michael’s life as a puppy. Michael needed a life long best friend when he was going through a tough time in his life a few years ago. Since then Conor has been the sweetest loving animal anyone could ask for. He is a good listener and is very well behaved dog. He is a very emotional and spunky boy and we know he will get through this and he’s so strong. Just needing all and every prayer we can receive.
All donations will go to Michael and the family for all vet bills of over 15 thousand. And for the loss of missing out of work to handle this. I will keep posting updated but for right now we need prayers and shares on this post. We are at the hardest stage right now and doing what we can to help him. If you’re not able to donate please share this to any place you can.
