On September 4th, 2025, the worst dream became a reality for the Day/ Spaude Family. At about 5:15 p.m., at the intersection of Highways 10 and 25, a 2003 Chevy Suburban was traveling westbound on Highway 10, crossing Highway 25, when it collided with their loving 11-year-old son, Connor Day, who was on foot crossing the street going home from the Wave in Big Lake.
Responding Big Lake officers and emergency crews immediately rendered aid to Connor, who was then transported by ambulance. Connor’s mom, Dominique Spaude had to drive separately in order to be by his side after he arrived to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, where dad Mathew Day arrived shortly after.
Dominique and Mathew were shocked with fear and terror as their son was surrounded by medical staff to assist the damage from the traumatic accident. After many tests and scans at Children's Hospital Minneapolis, it was determined that Connor needed to be transported to M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center East Bank location to undergo emergency surgery to put a stent in due to Connor's aorta artery being damaged. After the stent was surgically placed, Connor then needed to have heart surgery due to his heart bleeding from the impact of the accident.
Connor is now healing at M Health Fairview Masonic Children's Hospital in Minneapolis.
Connor's injuries consist of a cut above his right eye that required 10 stitches, 4 broken ribs, broken nasal cavity, compressed T3 vertebrae, and damage to both kidneys, liver, spleen, and pancreas.
As the road to recovery from here on out will be an uphill battle for Connor and his family. Dominique will unfortunately have to quit her job in order to help Connor heal once he is able to come home.
I ask the community, friends, and family if you can to please help out this loving family. Connor is Dominique and Mathew's third oldest of 4 amazing children. The Day/ Spaude family are not ones to ask for help or anything. So let's show them what we as a community are made of!
Connor update:
Connor is now able to eat a little something! Keep sending prayers and love to the Day/Spaude family
