Help Conner's Family as He Faces His 4th Open-Heart Surgery

Support for a Single Mother Battling Alongside Her Son

At just 17 years old, Conner is once again fighting the battle of his life. After spending the past four weeks in hospital crisis, he is now awaiting what may be his most critical procedure yet: a likely **fourth open-heart surgery** to completely replace a vital heart stent.

Conner was born with an ASVD Left Ventricle Heart Defect. His life has been a relentless cycle of medical challenges, starting with three open-heart surgeries as an infant, including the Fontan procedure at age two. For the past three years, he has endured multiple Cath Surgeries to slowly stretch his stent to improve circulation.

The Emergency: Blue Lips and a Life-Threatening Tear

On October 15th, Conner had his final planned Cath procedure. He was sent home despite concerning stats, with doctors noting only a "pin-size leak." Just one week later, Conner came downstairs for dinner and was completely blue and desaturating. He was rushed to the Alberta Children's Hospital where doctors discovered that "pin-size leak" was actually a dangerous 7mm tear in his stent.

After three stressful days in ICU in Calgary due to capacity issues, Conner was airlifted to the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton, where all pediatric heart surgeries in Alberta are performed. An initial repair attempt on Friday was unsuccessful; doctors confirmed a leak remains, and as Conner's stats dropped to the critical 75-80 range last night, the decision is imminent: **The stent will likely need to be completely replaced, requiring immediate open-heart surgery. In hopes that it would solve the problem. For now, a surgical plan is being finalized this Tuesday.

The Unbearable Burden on a Single Mother

This medical crisis has placed an unbearable financial and emotional strain on Conner's family. His mother is a single mother trying to manage her three children and household while dedicating all her time to Conner.

The past four weeks have required her to take extensive, unpaid time off work. Adding to the difficulty, her other daughter also needed unexpected day surgery while Conner was in ICU.

Well we had an unfortunate turn of events and we are back in the hospital. Conner has been admitted to the Calgary Children's Hospital. 

Conner's lungs have experienced some collapsing and fluid build up so he requires oxygen and medication to get rid of it. They will watch him tonight and possibly move him in ICU and he may need another surgery for drainage tubes! So at least we are in Calgary but it looks like this will be home for another week or two! This poor kid can't catch a break!
