Dear friends, members, and supporters of Coney Island Beautification Project,
We founded this organization following the disaster of Hurricane Sandy to be a force of positive change through community greening projects. Since then, we have transformed into an organization that is leading as part of the solution to climate change in Coney Island and beyond.
Since then, we have faced challenges as a community, most recently due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Yet we have come together through positive and healing projects.
Thanks to you, in 2021 we:
- Greened our community during a commemorative day of service on the anniversary of Hurricane Sandy: planted and distributed 20,000 daffodil bulbs in local tree beds.
- Educated hundreds of youth on Earth Day: about their local community and environment through the Harbor Protectors Program.
- Engaged hundreds of community members on City of Water Day, celebrating Coney Island as an integral part of New York City’s 520 miles of waterfront in partnership with the Waterfront Alliance and NY-NJ Harbor & Estuary Program.
- Ensured that Coney Island’s voice was heard through advising decision-makers, participating in coalitions, and serving on NYCHA’s Climate Committee, resulting in policies that will reduce climate impacts and protect our green spaces.
