On 9/16/2025 at 9:00pm I received a phone call from Turin Fire department telling me that my son Colten William Kent was in a 1 person motorcycle accident, that I needed to meet them at the Fire Hall as he was being flown to Upstate University Hospital for head trauma.
Colten is suffering from multiple skull fractures that lead to his left ear canal causing CSF to drain from his ear and into his brain. He has multiple fractures to the right side of his face with a laceration to his right eye brow. His right eye has a blockage behind the retinal and they are unsure if he will be able to see out of his eye when he awakens. A fractured collarbone to the right shoulder. Colten’s right lung had also collapsed and needed a chest tube placed while having fractures to his right ribs and multiple contusions to both of his lungs.
After multiple CT’s and an MRI, we were told that Colten’s brain was severely swollen and he had mild sheering of the brain, but the Neurologist team has high hopes that he will remember his name when he wakes up. A brain catheter was surgically placed to drain CSF and help reduce brain pressure.
With TBI, Colten has experienced multiple storms and will most likely have confusion, headaches, dizziness, vomiting, and lightheadedness when he wakes.
After the trauma and neuro teams had run numerous tests we later found out that Colten’s brain has an infection called Pasteurella that then leaded into Meningitis PRIOR to his accident. The Pediatric team believes that Colten was suffering symptoms from the brain infections which more than likely caused him to drive off of the road.
Colten is currently in Neurological ICU at Upstate University Hospital, he is still in a medically sedated coma and is medically paralyzed. He is on a ventilator and a Nitric Oxide machine to help stabilize his vitals as he has had numerous storms causing his heart rate to be in the high 150’s and o2 to be on the very low 80’s with a fluctuating BP and ICP.
Today 9/24/25 they clamped his brain catheter and as long as he stays stable they will remove that tomorrow.
We have a long road of recovery ahead of us. Any contributions to help our family for gas, food, and hotels would help tremendously. I am out of work and plan to continue to stay by Colten’s side through this entire journey.
Please pray for our strong boy!
