Collin Whyte is just 9 years old, yet he has already faced challenges far beyond his years. He lives with hydrocephalus, a serious condition that causes fluid to build up on the brain. He is also autistic and nonverbal, making it even more difficult for him to communicate the pain and struggles he experiences each day.

Right now, Collin is at Scottish Rite preparing for his 12th brain surgery. Every procedure brings a mix of hope and fear, along with an uncertain and often difficult recovery. Through it all, Collin shows a quiet resilience, while his family stands firmly by his side, advocating for the best care possible.

His mother has been his constant source of strength. She works at Waffle House while also managing the demands of hospital life—a balance that requires incredible endurance. Known for her warm smile, she continues to uplift others even as she carries the weight of long days, sleepless nights, and the responsibility of caring for her son. Her determination to provide Collin with everything he needs never wavers.

The family is now hoping to get Collin to Boston Children’s Hospital, where specialized care and advanced treatment options could make a meaningful difference in his quality of life. However, getting there is only part of the challenge. They’ve been told that one of the hardest hurdles is getting out-of-state Medicaid to cover the care he needs, adding another layer of uncertainty and stress to an already overwhelming situation. On top of that, the cost of travel, medical care, and ongoing treatment presents a significant financial burden.
