If you were lucky enough to know Colleen, you know the kindness, love, and support she gave to everyone she came in contact with.
On September 27, 2025, our sweet, dear mother, daughter, aunt, friend, and co-worker was so violently taken from us.
As a Security Guard at the State of Washington’s Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake for over 4 years, Colleen Hendrickson Bass tragically lost her life in the line of duty, protecting others. Colleen approached an individual, unknowingly to her, who was tacitly armed and had unlawfully arrived on the campus grounds of Eastern State Hospital. Her precious life was taken while trying to save countless others, which she did. Because of her quick response and contact with other Security Guards, she saved many lives to include the patients and staff of the hospital.
As a family and a member of a small, close-knit community, we mourn this loss greatly. She was more than a daughter, mom, aunt, pup mom, friend, and co-worker. She was the light in the room. (But not in the Dateline Sense). LOL The planner. The adventurer. The smiler. The jokester. The peacekeeper. The little sister to all her friends. The teammate who had heart. (A roller derby bad ass, “BomBASStic”) LOL. She loved her life and living that life to her fullest.
No one should ever be silenced by such senseless violence. Every single dollar makes a difference and will go to Colleen’s family and the funeral costs as they lay her to rest and help them heal in the unknown future without her.
