Support Colleen Capwell-Lutynski's Battle Against Cancer
Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,
My family and I are reaching out with hopeful but heavy hearts. My incredible mom, Colleen (Capwell) Lutynski, has recently been diagnosed with Myelofibrosis (Bone Marrow Cancer) and Myelodysplastic Syndrome (blood cancer) — The conditions combined are causing her bone marrow to overgrow and dysfunction leading to the inability to produce healthy cells and they also found three gene mutations. Due to her younger age and the progression of the cancer, she is in need of an involved treatment plan out of her home area and she faces a battle that requires more than just strength and determination; it needs community support.
The Road Ahead: A Fight for Recovery
To give her the best chance at recovery, our mom will be undergoing a combination of cutting-edge treatments, including:
Jak 2 inhibitor (oral medication)
Chemotherapy
Radiation Therapy
Stem Cell Transplant
These treatments will take place at a specialized facility in Buffalo, NY, requiring travel and extended stays. The journey is not only physically and emotionally taxing but also financially overwhelming.
Why We Need Your Help
My Mother has worked for Broome County for 25 years in addition to running her small business for the last 11 years and she has always worked tirelessly to support herself and those she loves. Unfortunately, her ability to work will be severely limited for possibly a full year, especially in her business, which is a small lavender farm, Lavendel Fields in Upstate New York. Her inability to garden or work with dried herbs and plants until she is fully recovered will have a large impact on their business and products they produce. This could cause additional financial stress at a time that she needs to focus on her health and well being. The funds raised will help cover the following expenses:
Travel Costs: Regular trips to Buffalo, NY, for treatments and follow-ups, which is over three hours from her home.
Treatment Facility Expenses: Medical bills not covered by insurance.
Long Term Stay Costs: Specialized care and support during her recovery phase and living in apartment, Guest house or hotel for at least 60 days after her procedure since she has to be near the Cancer Institute. She is also required to have a Caregiver for this 60 day period, so her husband Harry, my brother Tyler, my sister Sarah and I will be taking turns staying in Buffalo with her to take care of her medical needs and emotional support through this difficult recovery. The cost to stay in Buffalo may end up being
$12,000 or more.
Home Alterations: Adapting her home to ensure safety and accessibility during recovery.
Possible Business Income Loss: Helping her manage everyday expenses while she is unable to work.
Our Goal
We aim to raise $10,000 to ensure my mom can focus entirely on her health without the added stress of financial strain. Your generosity will directly contribute to her treatment, recovery, and overall well-being.
