Hello, Tonya here. I'm asking for help for my dear friend, Colin Hobbs. Colin has always been there for me & my family, now he & his family need our support.
Help Support Colin’s Long Road to Recovery
On January 24, while doing nothing stressful, Colin experienced a sudden, sharp pain in the center of his body. As he and his wife Angie were waiting for an official diagnosis at the hospital near their home in Arizona, the excruciating pain didn’t go away. After an MRI, doctors discovered that his aorta had dissected in three places — a life-threatening emergency. The care team quickly prepared Colin to immediately be life-flighted to Las Vegas to receive specialized care.
Just five days later, on January 29, while still in the hospital recovering from the aortic dissection, Colin suffered a stroke. It affected the right side of his brain, leaving the left side of his body partially paralyzed. As he continued to fight, he suffered a second stroke the following week. This time, the stroke impacted the left side of his brain — affecting his speech, short-term memory, and cognitive abilities. Around the same time, Colin also developed pneumonia.
After three intense weeks in the ICU, Colin was moved to a Long-Term Care Facility, where he began physical and speech therapy with an amazing team. There is real hope that, with advanced therapy, Colin will walk again.
Where We Are Now
Colin has since been transferred to a Skilled Nursing Facility in Phoenix. He recently had his first appointment with a vascular surgeon, who has ordered a follow-up MRI to assess how his aorta has healed. If the bulges in his aorta are under 5cm, there’s a chance stents can be placed. If they’re over 5cm, surgery may no longer be an option.
When Colin is strong enough, he will transition to an Acute Rehab facility — a critical next step in helping him regain strength and adjust to life outside of a hospital bed.
How You Can Help
Colin’s recovery will be long and challenging. He is three and a half hours from home, and his wife, Angie, is doing everything she can to be there for both Colin and their children. The financial strain is overwhelming, and your support can make a huge difference.
Your donations will help cover:
Travel expenses – So Angie can continue to be with Colin while also caring for their kids.
Living expenses – The family’s income has been significantly impacted.
Medical costs – Including therapies, uncovered procedures, and possible home modifications once Colin is able to return.
Colin is a fighter, and with your support, he has a real chance at recovery. Every donation, share, and message of encouragement means the world to this family as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you so much for your love and support.
