Support Colby’s Road to Recovery
Donation protected
On March 30th, Colby was at a motocross race track in West Virginia with his wife and two daughters for what was supposed to be an exciting first gate drop of the season. While racing and holding second place, the rider ahead of him made a mistake and crashed right in front of him—leaving Colby nowhere to go as he hit a 100-foot tabletop jump.
With no time to react, Colby landed on the downed rider’s bike, causing his own bike to go sideways and throwing him violently through the air. He hit the ground with tremendous force, suffering serious injuries: both femurs broken, several ribs fractured, and a bruised lung.
The track crew at Tomahawk MX immediately recognized the severity of the situation and called for life flight. Onsite EMS and staff worked quickly to remove his gear and prepare him for airlift to a hospital in Virginia, where he underwent two separate surgeries to repair his femurs with rods and screws. After 10 days of recovery, Colby was transferred to a hospital in Connecticut to be closer to his family, where he spent another five days in rehab.
He finally returned home on April 13th and will continue his recovery with in-home physical therapy until he’s able to begin outpatient rehab.
Colby owns a small excavation business, which he operates primarily on his own with the help of a few others. This injury means he won’t be able to work for an extended period of time, and as a small business owner, the financial burden is significant. He also carries his own insurance policy, which comes with high deductibles- and it’s still uncertain whether his life flight transport will be covered at all.
Colby is not someone who usually asks for help- he’s always the one showing up for others. But right now, he and his family need us. His wife Ashlee has also taken time off work to care for him full-time as he heals. Every bit of support brings them one step closer to stability and healing.
Please consider donating and sharing this page to help Colby and his family get through this incredibly difficult journey. Your support means the world.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
