Today, we share, on behalf of Cody Bowen’s family, the unthinkable and unimaginable loss of our beautiful Cody. Our sweet, gentle, patient, and kind Cody, whose bright smile and loving presence touched so many. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, a best friend, and so much more. He was taken from us far too soon.
As you can imagine, the wave of emotions is overwhelming and ever-changing, leaving his family heartbroken as they try to navigate a loss no one should have to face alone. This is where we come together, as his village, his family’s village, and as anyone who finds it in their heart to help carry some of this weight.
We humbly ask you to consider donating and/or sharing this GoFundMe. This is one small way we can support Cody’s family during a time when they should be focused on grieving, not on logistics. In addition to Cody’s health insurance that expired December 31st, 2025, funds raised will help cover funeral expenses, remaining medical bills, legal fees, and family support as they piece together the aftermath of this tragic event.
Cody made the selfless decision to be an organ donor long before this unimaginable and unforeseen circumstance. In true Cody fashion, and he knew fashion better than all of us, he once again put others before himself. Because of him, lives will be changed. As one family mourns, others will be given hope and life. His legacy will live on in the most meaningful way.
On the evening of Thursday, January 8th, Cody's family took the Honor Walk as they said their goodbyes. It was then they learned just how many lives Cody would help. He will be donating eight organs and over one hundred skin grafts, including grafts that will help babies with cleft palates. This profound gift is a true reflection of the kindness, generosity, and selflessness that defined who Cody was.
Cody was happiest in the mountains, where he felt most at peace. He loved deeply – through the good, the bad, and everything in between. With Cody, there was no keeping score and no limit to second chances. He welcomed people exactly as they were. Tragically, that kindness was taken advantage of.
On behalf of Cody’s family, thank you for every donation, every share, and every message of support.
- If you are able, please consider selecting the option to cover the transaction fee so the full donation may go toward supporting the family.
- For those who prefer an alternative method, a personal donation account has been established at Marine Credit Union near Fleet Farm on Pioneer Street. Simply provide donation for Cody Bowen under Barb Schmitz to the teller when donating.
Please know that no amount is too small, and every share matters. The family is deeply grateful to those who have kept them in their thoughts and prayers. They see you, they hear you, and they appreciate you for helping keep Cody’s name and memory alive.
As the family navigates the many responsibilities ahead while allowing space to grieve, they ask that you remember Cody as brave, kind, intelligent, faithful, professional, and deeply loved.
If you or someone you love feels abused, threatened, scared, or unsafe in a relationship with a partner or family member, please contact the free, 24-hour National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).
As an extended family member, a friend, a high school graduate alongside him, and part of what I proudly consider one of the coolest auntie-and-uncle duos, thank you for standing with Cody’s family during this heartbreaking time and for honoring a life that mattered so deeply. I will miss those quiet moments filled with laughter and knowing looks, and shared memories over the years and at our nephew’s and niece’s birthdays with you. Love you.
