Support Cody's Family Through Heart Crisis

Hi, my name is Megan and I am Cody Morgan’s sister-in-law. Maisie, Cody, and their little family need a lot of love and community to surround them at this time. I know that both Maisie and Cody are not the ones to ask for help to this level, so I am taking the lead to invite you all to come alongside them and help them shoulder some heavy medical and life burdens.

For those that don’t know, Cody went into the ER two weeks ago for shortness of breath and chest/abdomen discomfort. We found out that Cody was in extreme heart failure with his heart only working to pump out blood at 10%. To put this in perspective, this is about as bad as your heart can be while still being compatible with life. He is only 27 years old.

He has been placed on several expensive medications and now has a wearable continuous heart monitor/defibrillator. He is currently in the hospital once again as there is too much fluid building up around his heart and affecting his other organs. He will remain there until further notice.

After speaking with a couple cardiologists and several other doctors, he has been placed on many work restrictions and he must continue to wear the monitor/defibrillator for the foreseeable future. He will get a repeat echo at the end of the month to see if his heart is improving at all.

If it improves above at least the 30% he may be considered for an implanted defibrillator but if his heart does not improve at least above a 30% he will most likely be placed on a transplant list for a heart transplant as the life expectancy of someone with this significance of heart failure that does not improve is about 5 years.

This is going to be a very long road for his recovery and we are unsure at what will happen as only time will tell. He is currently unable to work and we are unsure of how long he will have to remain out of work or how much he will be able to work in the future.

To add to their family’s challenges their landlord has given them 45 days to vacate their current living situation because they want to move back and take over the property again. Maisie is 8 months pregnant and they have a 3 yr old little girl and they are doing their best to manage it all. Maisie needs her husband and those little girls need their daddy to be okay.

The funds raised will go directly to Maisie to help cover the costs of medical expenses and the bills and living expenses that have taken a hit without Cody being able to work and have an income.

They also need help in other ways: help finding an apartment that they can afford that will hold their little family, help moving, cleaning, the occasional meal, help with groceries, etc. If you wish to support them in one of these ways please contact me or Maisie directly.

These days it is more and more evident how much we need community to come alongside us to help us shoulder our burdens and how much we have to be vulnerable and take the risk to ask for help and give others the opportunity to rise up and assist us when we are in need.
