Support Cody and Family Through Surgery and Recovery

Hello! My name is Ashleigh and I am writing in support of my brother, Cody, his wife Carly, and their new addition, Hallie.

As many of you know, Cody had dealt with knee pain for years which led to him needing surgery on it back in 2021. Recently, Cody began experiencing knee pain again, and in anticipation of the arrival of his daughter, he sought medical care in order to be as active and present as possible. Following an ultrasound and MRI, doctors confirmed that there was a mass present that needed to be removed. Cody underwent surgery on 2/17 to remove the mass and on 2/19, we received the shocking news that the mass had tested positive for synovial sarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer.

Thankfully, a clear CT scan on 2/20 showed no signs that the cancer had spread. Additionally, Cody’s orthopedic oncologist explained that while chemotherapy and radiation aren’t necessary due to the size of the tumor, to prevent recurrence and to give Cody the best chance at long-term health, while preserving as much mobility as possible, they recommended a rotationplasty.

Due to Cody's clear CT scan, the size of the tumor, and his overall health, doctors were comfortable waiting to do the surgery until after the birth of their beautiful daughter, Hallie, allowing Carly and Cody to enjoy being a new family of three.

On April 8th, Cody will undergo the rotationplasty surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. In Cody’s case, the middle portion of his leg, including his knee and part of his femur, will be removed. Then, his lower leg and foot will be rotated 180° and reattached to his upper leg. Afterwards, he will have 6-8 weeks of healing before being fitted for a prosthetic, followed by a month of daily physical therapy to learn how to walk again. With the support of his ankle turned at 180° and a prosthetic, there is no limitation as to what he will be able to do in the future.

To many, Cody is the strongest and most determined person we know. With the support of his incredible wife, family, and friends surrounding him, we will all get through this together.

I am starting this GoFundMe to assist with upcoming medical expenses, lost income due to time off work, and any other needs that will help them focus on healing.

Family will be updating throughout Cody’s surgery and recovery here:
