Support Coco's Healing & Peaceful End-of-Life Transition

Donation protected
Thank you so much for visiting this fundraiser in support of Coco, our senior Shih Tzu, who is healing from unprecedented cluster seizures which required an emergency hospitalization from October 21st to 22nd (documentation provided below).

Coco in her elder years has become a true teacher of relishing the simple pleasures of life— she loves getting her nose tickled by nature, and any introduction of a new snack (melon is her favorite!) is an affirmation of how exciting life can be!

After experiencing multiple grand mal and local seizures within a period of 24 hours earlier this week, Coco is presently navigating life having lost most motor control and cognitive awareness, with no history of seizures prior. Even with medications following her hospitalization, Coco has continued to experience local seizures. As evaluations have ruled out other possibilities, along with Coco’s responsiveness to some anticonvulsants while not others, it has been the consensus of multiple practitioners that the likeliest cause of these seizures is a brain tumor. It has been advised that the safest and healthiest course of healing is to provide Coco with as much ease and comfort during her remaining time.

Donations (which can be made anonymously*) of any amount are invaluable, as they will relieve medical debt to ensure Coco can experience a peaceful end-of-life transition with her family and in the comfort of her own home with the support of a veterinary hospice provider. Based on the progression of Coco’s condition, this has been advised by our practitioners to prevent the risk of Coco enduring an emergency departure and subsequent trauma as the result of another grand mal seizure or organ failure.

Financial contributions will also ensure Coco’s younger sister, Promise, can continue to receive care for her chronic health conditions (adrenal and digestive dysfunction she’s lived with since puppyhood), as future needs are impossible to meet following this emergency.

The fundraising goal reflects the below expenditures and accounts for additional processing fees for each donation received by GoFundMe to make this fundraiser possible:
  • 24 hour emergency hospital visit (October 21-22), which provided overnight supervision, vital medications, and overall vet care to stabilize Coco during her period of cluster seizures as well as subsequent necessities to combat seizures in the upcoming days. ($3063 — invoices uploaded below) *Per the Update posted on October 31, we are still working towards accounting for this expenditure to ensure Promise can receive vet care for her pre-existing conditions and/or a potential emergency.*
  • Follow-up visit with our family vet (October 23), which provided further support re: a diagnosis, upcoming care, and subsequent immediate medications for anxiety, pain relief, and sleep. ($112 — invoice uploaded below) *Per the Update posted on October 31, this expenditure has now been accounted for— thank you all so much for your astonishing support.*
  • Upcoming at-home end-of-life transition provided by Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice, which provided outstanding care and a peaceful departure for Coco’s older sister last year when she transitioned; we seek to provide the same for Coco to honor her. ($825, statement uploaded below) *Per the Update posted on October 31, Coco received the immeasurable gift of experiencing a peaceful transition with Lap of Love; thank you all so much for making this possible.*
  • Emergency funding for any potential hospitalizations until Coco’s at-home transition ($1500) *Per the Update posted on October 31, the current fundraising goal no longer reflects this expenditure and has since been adjusted accordingly; Coco was able to experience a peaceful transition at home with the support of this fundraiser and did not require further emergency hospitalizations.*

* Anonymous donors’ names will not display on this page publicly, but some information is disclosed internally. More information can be found here.

We write to you on behalf of Coco with complete understanding that making a financial contribution is an impossible ask of many in these unprecedented times; a share of this page with your loved ones and community is of immeasurable help.

Coco since being discharged has enjoyed the park and continues to be tickled by nature; every wag of her tail at the recognition of Promise and her human family has been a celebration and a reminder that beauty and connection are abound in these moments.

Thank you so much in advance for being so generous as to visit this page, as doing so greatly contributes to Coco’s healing. We hope you are taking the utmost care.

Thank you!
