Most of you know me as Coach-G, my friends have always called me Geno or Crazy Rojo.. For once in my life, I ran into something meaner than me. I thought I was one hell of badass never backing down from any challenge, then I heard the words, "You have stage 4 squamous cell carcinoma of the lungs that has fully Metastasis." meaning that its spreading throughout my body. I was given 2 weeks to live in November of 2023, I lost over 100 pounds, and was stuck in intensive care for 6 months. I was exposed to Asbestos, Agent Orange, and Burn pits in the military. I started doing a new treatment called immunotherapy and the good Lord has given me the gift of life. Still not out of the woods, but getting better and better each day.
I want to thank my family and friends for giving me hope, along with lots of love. I spent a life time giving back to my community and using sports as an avenue for a better education for our youth. Having the ability to inspire others with hope is one of my greatest gifts.. The power to motivate them to give as much to the lives of others as they would give to their own; and to empower them to confront the worst in themselves in order to discover and claim the best in themselves.
I have always been proud to support my community and give back when ever I can... But now with this diagnoses and having Immune treatments ever 6 weeks, The costs are starting to add up, and I am worried I will leave my family with heavy medical bills and other expenses. I have never asked for help from anyone, but times have changed, and I have been in this battle for my life for about 18 months now. I live by four mottos...
#1. Keep God and Family first...
#2. Set High goals! so high that only you can reach them...
#3. Always tell and show those you love just how much you love them...
And finally #4. have fun like a G...
Thank you for your support and may God bless you and yours
