On January 26th, 2024, Coach Vince traveled to Arizona alongside with his daughter Coach Jade to help her coach her softball team. Unfortunately, soon after landing he felt ill. He described it as "tightening of his chest", not wanting to alarm anyone he decided to proceed with the original plan to help coach and headed to the park for warmups. During the warmups it was suggested he at the very least have his blood pressure checked before the game. He was taken to a nearby fire station where they were able to do full vitals and determined that the EKG was abnormal and advised he be transported to the hospital for a more extensive examination. After a plethora of medical testing, it was confirmed he had suffered from cardiac arrest. The cardiologist informed Jade the reason for the heart attack stemmed from having blockage in four arteries, one of which was 100 % blocked. They have recommended an emergent quadruple bypass (open heart surgery).
As many of you know Coach Vince is a dedicated father to both Nico and Jade. He has coached and supported them throughout their baseball and softball careers. Now all three share their passion and knowledge through coaching both baseball and softball at a high level. Coach Vince has been the general manager for the Ohana Softball Club for the past 9 years. In addition, he is a varsity coach at Torrance High School.
The road to recovery will be a long one. At this moment, Vince will proceed with surgery in Arizona. Jade will have to be there with him for the coming weeks. With him and Jade not being able to work during this time, they will certainly have an unexpected financial burden. Both Coach Vince and Coach Jade spend countless of unpaid hours helping many girls achieve their softball dream. Please help support him and his family during this difficult time.
