My name is Jeffrey "Chip" Patterson. I'm reaching out to you on this date because on my wife's deathbed on 7 September 2025, she asked me to start a foundation that would donate money to 2 high school volleyball players to attend college in her name, Leilani E. Patterson Pedro.
So, I figured that I would reach out to the community that knew Lei well and how she was always willing to give to the community of volleyball. I figured what better place to reach out to people that are always willing to help a good cause, especially one that's coming from a woman with a great heart.
Leilani had been battling breast cancer for five years. During that time, she never wavered from her commitment to the volleyball program. She would be at every practice and game, always giving a positive face. Even when she could no longer walk, she managed to have someone pushing her in a wheelchair up and down the court, motivating her team. Lei would put in continuous hours after practice writing to college coaches to further not only her players but other players that she would come in contact with. It is this type of tireless effort that she would do on a regular basis, all while fighting cancer and raising her family.
Even in death, Coach Lei wanted to ensure that kids' opportunities flourish in her absence. So, on behalf of Coach Leilani, I would like to start the "Coach Leilani Outstanding Student Athlete Scholarship Award".
Let me just say in advance, thank you for making her dream come true.
