My name is Laron Johnson. I grew up in Altadena my whole life and still will reside here. I am a football as well as a high school teacher. I strive everyday to make a difference in the community. I am someone who values stability and the sense of home, and I’ve always taken pride in creating a space where I feel grounded. This experience has tested my resilience, but it has also shown me my strength and adaptability. I’m determined to rise above.

I have been evacuated from my home due to the devastating wildfires in Altadena and this has been one of the most challenging experiences of my life. In an instant, everything I had worked for and cherished was at risk, forcing me to leave with little more than the clothes on my back. The fear and uncertainty were overwhelming, as the flames raged nearby and the air was thick with smoke. I found myself displaced, staying with family and relying on the kindness of others while trying to make sense of my new reality.

Now, as I try to get used to this “new normal,” the process feels both daunting and humbling. The emotional toll is very heavy on me, and navigating the logistics of finding temporary shelter, dealing with insurance, and coordinating with various agencies is exhausting and has been unfortunately very unsuccessful. Despite these challenges, I know God has a plan and I’m trusting and believing in Him. I pray and keep my faith every single day. I haven’t lost the physical home, but my sense of security and hope. Every small step forward feels like HUGE progress, and though the road ahead is long, I’m holding onto my faith and the support of my community that I do get. I do believe and know that better days are ahead.
