Help Coach Charles Stay in His Home During Recovery
Hello, I have been friends with Charles Burks for over 30 years, and he has always put a smile on everyone's face.
Many of you know Charles Burks—as Coach Charles, Dancing Charles—the dancing fool with all the moves and the biggest grin, making everyone comfortable and entertained on the dance floor. He has dedicated years of his life to working hard, mentoring others, and helping where he can. Today, he finds himself in a very difficult situation and is humbly asking for your help.
Why He Needs Your Support
He is currently facing eviction and urgently needs to raise funds to stay in his home while recovering from a serious medical condition. After over 13 years of living in his apartment, he has fallen two months behind on rent and received a formal 15-day eviction notice on August 18th, 2025.
Here’s how he got here:
On July 2, 2025, his car required emergency repairs totaling $1,600—the same amount he had set aside for his July rent.
On July 31, 2025, he underwent major foot surgery—a procedure called Left Triple Arthrodesis—performed at Sutter Surgery Hospital.
He was admitted to Santa Cruz Post Acute Facility for recovery due to living alone. On August 15, he was discharged and sent home with a home care team.
Just three days later, he received the eviction notice.
Due to his surgery, he is declared temporarily disabled and unable to work until at least January 2026, per his doctor.
Financial Situation
He lives solely on Social Security, receiving about $1,597.70 per month after taxes. This doesn’t cover rent, living expenses, and food. Prior to surgery, he supplemented his income by driving for Uber, often working 8–12 hour days, despite chronic foot pain since 2023.
These costs quickly became unmanageable when his ability to work was taken away by necessary surgery.
A Little About Him
He’s built his life around helping others—as a coach, a mentor, a friend. He never imagined he’d be the one asking for help. But here he is, doing just that.
What He’s Asking
He’s hoping to raise $24,000 to cover the following:
Rent from now through March 2026 during his recovery period
Essential living expenses
Medical and transportation costs
Any amount—large or small—makes a difference. Even if you’re unable to donate, sharing this campaign with your network would mean the world to him.
Final Words
He is doing everything he can to recover, stay positive, and prepare for the day he can get back on his feet—literally and financially. Thank you for taking the time to read his story, and thank you for any support you’re able to give.
