To our Boulder Biking Community:

One of Boulder Junior Cycling’s longest serving coaches, Brett Poulton, was recently diagnosed with Classical Hodgkins Lymphoma. While coaching and  mentoring Boulder youth, Brett also worked full-time at a local cycling company.  Due to the pandemic, that store permanently shut its doors. Fortunately, the Boulder biking community came together during this difficult time, and he is now working full-time for one of our local bike stores, Full Cycle.

Unfortunately, Brett received his diagnosis between insurance coverage and must stay enrolled on a COBRA plan which has high deductibles and out of pocket expenses. His prognosis is good and he is expected to make a full recovery, but he will need at least six cycles of chemo, PET scans and follow up visits.

Brett is a long-time cyclist, Boulder community member, CU alum and cherished member of the BJC family.  Please join me and my family in supporting Brett with these unexpected and overwhelming costs and let's get him get back out on the trails!

Our goal is to raise $20,000 but any amount to help Brett will be welcomed and appreciated.

More about Brett:

“He was one of my son's first coaches and he's a big part of why all three of our boys now bike with the team. Brett exemplifies what makes BJC so special. He's encouraging, enthusiastic and has deep reservoirs of patience. Also, he's really fast and makes sure the kids have fun and work hard.”

“Brett is a great coach.  He is nice to everyone and makes practices super fun.  He explains everything very clearly to help me be a better rider.”

“Coach Brett is really supportive and pushes everyone to improve their skills.”

Brett Poulton has been coaching with Boulder Junior Cycling for four years, while pursuing his undergraduate degree at CU and working at a local bicycle retailer. Although Brett misses coaching and wants to be back on the trails, he still maintains a positive outlook.  He loves his new job at Full Cycle and is grateful to Russ and Stephen for providing a safe environment for him to continue working.

Brett provided the picture attached to this page and shared this about the moment it captured:
"I look happy in that photo because that was about a day or two before this whole ordeal started!! Jokes aside, mentally I really am doing fine. I think working is helping keep me sane and goal-oriented, and I’m mentally tough to begin with, which I attribute almost entirely towards racing mountain bikes."
