Evan Adams, or Coach Adams as her students and athletes affectionately refer to her, began her teaching and coaching career at Clarke Central High School five years ago. Her passion for health and fitness led her here, and as a member of the Health and Physical Education team and as Assistant Boys and Girls Tennis Coach, she has been able to help shape and mold the students of CCHS and leave a lasting impact.
In June of 2024, Coach Adams underwent a scheduled surgical procedure. Through this procedure it was discovered that she had Stage 1 Triple Positive Breast Cancer. At 33 years old, this came as a complete surprise. Buoyed by the support of her care team at UCBC Athens and her family and friends, she immediately began her battle against Breast Cancer.
Thus far, Coach Adams has undergone heart surgery and completed 5 of 6 scheduled rounds of Chemotherapy - all while still maintaining her presence in the classroom as much as possible. There is still a long road ahead. Upon completion of her chemotherapy treatment, Coach Adams will undergo a double mastectomy in December and then begin sixteen rounds of radiation and eventually undergo reconstructive surgery.
It is her sincerest hope that she will continue to teach and coach to the best of her ability throughout her treatment. It is also her hope that by sharing her story, she will inspire others to take an active role in their health and to show her students that it is possible to rise above even the toughest struggles and continue to live life to its fullest.
