On September 27th, my son and I were in the direct path of Hurricane Helene. We live in Hendersonville, North Carolina and our rented home was quickly inundated with three feet of water. I am a medically retired truck driver after spending 25 years on the road; having lived through a stroke and other chronic medical issues, I can no longer work as I used to.
My son and I are working through getting back on our feet. All that was savable from the house was the clothes on our back, a couple pairs of sneakers, some jeans and t-shirts and some underwear. With mud and other debris going through the house, almost all of our possessions were not savable. Both of our cars were completely destroyed - meaning no transportation for work, etc. We had to rent a car for a short time in order to get around and work on relief issues. Being that this was not cheap, it was only a short term measure.
With accommodations being more expensive than previous and not even having a pot to cook in, we have fallen on difficult times. We have exhausted FEMA funding, but now face the prospect of a very uncertain future.
Any help garnered from this GoFundMe will be used for basics like rent, clothes, food and household staples. We utilized the FEMA funds to get an apartment and some basic necessities, but ongoing bills in addition to trying to catch back up are proving to be overwhelming.
I never envisioned reaching out to my friends and neighbors, but I am in dire straits. I ask that you help me and my son to get back to some sort of normalcy. I will be eternally grateful to you all helping us through this natural disaster that has knocked us down.
God bless,
-Clive
