Hello, my name is Jessica Beach. I am a mother of 5: 3 teenage boys, a beautiful 4-year-old boy, and a beautiful 3-year-old girl. My story is about my 4-year-old son, Clinton. Since he was born, he's been a happy, loving little boy with a really bad issue: he has trouble going number 2. I know it may seem like not a big deal, but for him, it is. He will sometimes go 2 weeks without a bowel movement. He has had 2 biopsies and three surgery so far. to explain more about his condition I wrote everything that is wrong. When he was 2, his primary care doctor, after doing everything he could, such as seeing if he was lactose intolerant and taking him off of bread, sent him to a gastroenterologist. His GI doctor started giving him Miralax, Senna, mineral oil, and castor oil twice a day, but still no results. Finally, he had a biopsy done to test him for Hirschsprung's disease. The results came back stating that it was suggestive of Hirschsprung's disease. We got an appointment with UAB in Birmingham, Alabama. Unfortunately, before his appointment time could come up, we wound up having to rush him to the emergency room in Columbus, Georgia, because he had not gone to the bathroom in almost 3 weeks. After they tried to get him to have a bowel movement with no luck, they rushed him to UAB where they did a colostomy, and he had to be put on a bag. He was on the colostomy bag for 8 months. During this time, they did another biopsy to confirm the disease, only to find out he did not have that disease and had the surgery for no reason at all. So, we had to do another surgery to have his ostomy taken down. We stayed at UAB for 13 days after because once they took it down and put everything back to normal, he got backed up again. While there, they did a Sitz marker test that showed them that his entire digestive system is moving slowly, more slowly than it should. All 24 markers were still inside his digestive system, such as his colon and intestines, within day 5 when they should have been expelled. Now we are finding out that he does have a rare disease called idiopathic chronic constipation and that some of his colon is what they call dead. We are now having to go all the way to Columbus, Ohio, to get a study done of his colon and intestines to see exactly what parts are not working, and we will have to be there for a week. Which is going to take a few months to get the appointment. In the meantime, we are having to give him Linzess and fiber gummies to help him try to go and travel to Enterprise, Alabama, and back and forth to Birmingham, Alabama, to UAB so they can keep a check on him until we get the appointment. Once the study is done, hopefully, they can finally fix the issue for good. We live in Phenix City, Alabama, and my husband is the sole income for our large family. We just need help with medical expenses and travel expenses to get him back and forth where he needs to go. Our son has had 3 unnecessary surgeries so far that didn't help. But he keeps his smile, and he is so strong and still just a happy boy even though he has been through so much to be only 4. We appreciate and thank you for your help during this trying time.
