Help eco-anxious youth take action for the climate

Today, 70% of young people today are eco-anxious; 56% believe that humanity is doomed.

As a generation, we’ve inherited this crisis — yet we’re being excluded from the decisions governing our future. COP28 is no exception. In two months, world leaders will descend on Dubai to discuss our fate, while young people are left to protest in the streets.

We’re on the brink of climate collapse. When leaders are failing to act with urgency, we must empower the next generation to take decisive action. To turn eco-anxiety into action. At Force of Nature, we know from direct experience that conversation is the first step.

Enter – the climate café.

Climate cafés are safe spaces for young people to connect, collaborate, and build community. We launched this initiative in 2022, in the run up to COP27, and have since supported 190+ climate cafés in 46 countries.

We produced a free and accessible guide that draws on our years of experience leading eco-anxiety research and facilitating climate conversations. We also launched a micro-grant scheme to support people, primarily in the Global South, who faced financial barriers.

This year, we’re going 10X on climate cafés.

With a global coordinated day of action on November 30, the first day of COP28, we will unite thousands of activists in 100+ major cities. Cafés will be hosted in cafeterias, schools, offices, places of worship, community centres, and more.

We’re fundraising to run this project; supply micro-grants to young people who wouldn’t be able to participate without financial support; and enable activists to physically attend COP28. We're also producing a new research-backed resource and digital toolkit to help activists run climate cafés in their communities.

By unleashing the power of conversation and community organising, YOU can directly help unlock the power of young people to take climate action. Hear from Gunjan Nanda in Dubai, whose climate café was the catalyst for something much bigger:

"Since our café, we've gone on to create a platform for climate change-makers and youth activists on the ground to give them a voice, and have hosted at least workshop a month with our community. [Without this], we wouldn't have had the impact and the community we built today and we definitely wouldn't be talking about eco-anxiety.”
