Hello all, my name is Rebekah, big sister to Clayton Taylor.

I have received many inquiries from friends and family regarding a go fund me; I wanted to ensure Clayton was ok with his story being shared first, so delayed putting this out right away. Thank you for your patience as we navigated another traumatic incident with Clay!!!

First off- if you are hearing about this for the first time, Clay is going to be ok, because he’s the toughest nut we all know! Unfortunately though, Clay was involved in a serious accident while vacationing in the Dominican Republic. He sustained multiple fractures, including a displaced broken collarbone, a shattered shoulder blade, multiple broken ribs, and a collapsed lung with internal bleeding. Initially he was taken by ambulance to a public hospital, then transferred to a private clinic due to the level of care he required. After a tense couple of days filled with unknowns, Clay had emergency chest surgery and multiple orthopaedic surgeries to stabilize his injuries with titanium plates and screws. It was terrifying, bringing up memories from over a decade ago when he was t-boned by a truck. (Like I said- one tough dude!)

It is scary and frustrating to be so far from your loved one when they need you the most- and we will be forever grateful to Clayton’s incredible friends for ensuring his safety and caring for him immediately after his accident, and as he recovers. Our family is also so thankful that two of Clayton’s brothers, Jesse and Curtis, were able to fly almost immediately to the DR to be with Clay. There was a collective sigh of relief, especially from Clay’s parents, when the brothers were on their way. Also- we can’t forget Ruth- an angel in the form of an international liaison who spoke English and walked us through Clayton’s care and money transfers.

Thanks to your prayers and an incredible surgical team, Clayton made it through surgery successfully. He was able to leave the hospital after several days if he promised to stay in his rental and rest. Jesse, Curt and Clays good friends have taken turns making meals and keeping Clayton company, raising his spirits up as he heals. He has been unable to fly home because of the collapsed lung- we are hopeful he will be cleared soon and can come back to Canada.

Clay will need months of healing before regaining strength and mobility, and will be off work indefinitely. So far, his medical bill stands at just over 50 thousand dollars. We will have a clearer number in the coming week.

If financially supporting is something you feel to do, no amount is too small, and is humbly appreciated. Sharing this page would mean just as much!

Thank you to those who have reached out- our family is incredibly grateful for your prayers, encouragement, meals, flowers and support during this time.

With love and gratitude,
on behalf of all the siblings,
Rebekah ❤️
