Hi, my name is Stacy Cerreto. I’m writing this on behalf of my dear friend Emily—because right now, she’s in full-on survival mode. She’s too overwhelmed, too exhausted, and honestly too heartbroken to write this herself.
Her husband has been battling leukemia (CLL) for eight long years. They’ve managed it for a long time—but everything changed in an instant. His cancer mutated into Richter’s Syndrome, a rare and devastating transformation into a second, more aggressive cancer: diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
It’s the kind of diagnosis no one wants to hear. The kind that comes with words like “grim prognosis.”
The doctors have confirmed that this diagnosis carries a very poor prognosis, and the months ahead will be incredibly difficult.
Only a few short weeks ago, he was working, raising their 5-year-old alongside Emily, and celebrating becoming a new grandfather. Now, at just 41, he is bedridden—fighting through intense pain, sky-high fevers, dangerously low oxygen, and a racing heart. He can’t be left alone, and Emily has become his full-time caregiver. She is changing the sheets several times a day and doing her best to keep him dry and comfortable.
Thank goodness, he has health insurance. But there is no disability insurance. No life insurance. Nothing else that will even consider touching them now.
With no money coming in, survival has become their biggest battle—one that feels like it’s closing in fast, with the weight of uncertainty and the shadow of what’s to come pressing down on them every day.
These are good, humble, hardworking people. Emily has poured herself into her family and community—volunteering at her kids’ daycare, working with the homeless, and always showing up for others, even when she had little to give, she always gave of herself and I have witnessed it too many times to count.
And now, Emily and Clay are the ones in need. I was mind blown when she had told me that asking for help "feels crushing". She’s embarrassed. She’s terrified it won’t work. And she’s heartbroken and losing hope that not many people have donated yet and should she "take it down because she feels foolish"—because they truly, desperately NEED this to take off.
So I’m stepping in—not just to ask for help, but to get this moving and circulating with love and compassion.
If there’s one thing I believe in this world, it’s this: human compassion is the most powerful force we have.
Even if every person who sees this gave just a few dollars—just a small act of kindness repeated over and over—it could carry this family through the unimaginable. It could give them time. Stability. A little peace in the middle of chaos.
Please, if you’re able, consider donating. Every share, every prayer, every dollar truly matters. I promise this family DESERVES the help and hope that we can help give.
Aggressive chemotherapy begins May 27. The next 6 months will be critical and they will be facing dire circumstances.
We need this fundraiser to reach endless amazing hearts. We need this to reach people who care.
Thank you for being part of this village.
Whether you are a friend or a stranger, your kindness means more than words can say, and I promise---if you're ever the one in need, we will show up for you too.
But for the grace of God, there go I
