Support Clay's Road to Recovery

Donation protected

Hello! My Fiancé Clay was in a motorcycle accident on Saturday night 6/29/24. In the incident, he was thrown over the handlebars and rolled off the bike. The bike kept rolling and ended up hitting a freeway exit sign. At first Clay said when it happened he kept thinking "there's no way this is actually happening" but then reality kicked in and he remembered what they taught him in his motorcycle course about tucking when you roll. While he was rolling he said his only thoughts were that he was going to die. He was in the middle of the freeway when he stopped rolling. Unfortunately, an oncoming truck didn't see him in the road and hit his head. His helmet flew off but saved his life! He then knew he had to move fast to get out of the road and tried to stand up. Not knowing his leg was broken, he fell. So he had to roll himself to the median.

With a million senerios running through my head, I had no idea what I would find when I got to the scene. I cant describe how grateful I was that when I arrived, and found he was alert and able to speak to the paramedics. I thank Jesus that he is still with us. However, he did sustain several injuries. He was rushed to the trauma unit and they found 7 areas with breaks in total. Including his left clavicle, 2 fingers, a rib, right ankle, and his right tibia and fibia were shattered. We spent the early morning hours in the Trauma ICU running tests before they took him downstairs to operate on his clavicle that was a clean break and his shattered tibia/fibia. However, what was causing the most pain was the road rash all over his body. I am writing as they operate and will give updates as I receive them!

I'm still in shock but I am so grateful that Clay has such an amazing support group of family and friends. And the love we have for him is well deserved. He is truly a beautiful person with such a loving and generous heart. He will always be one of the first to lend a helping hand or support those he loves. I thank God that he was put in my life every day and those couple minutes where I thought I may lose him were the scariest moments of my whole life.

After seeing his injurys and hearing the recalling of the incident, the hospital staff kept saying he was extremely lucky. And they see many cases exactly like Clays that don't get to walk away from it. If he did anything different during the crash or was just a few inches closer to that truck, he wouldn't be with us. In hindsight, it puts into perspective that just one second can change your life tremendously. He does have a long road to full recovery and at the moment we are unsure how long that will take or what that looks like. And most importantly when he will be able to return to work. Those who know Clay closely will know the hardest part in all of this will be not being able to jump in his car for a ride whenever he wants. He is not a very good passenger lol

I thank you in advance, and on behalf of his family, for your support in any way you can. Even if it's just in prayer. I hope what you take away from reading this story is to hug your loved ones extra tight. You never think these kinds of things will happen to you until it does. And my heart goes out to the family's of all those that were not as lucky as us.
