My name is Angélica Jiménez, I am Chilean, and I moved to the United States a year and a half ago.
A few months ago, our family learned that my father, Claudio Jiménez (58 years old), has a rare type of cancer called stage 3 soft tissue sarcoma.
In Chile, the healthcare system works quite well, so they were able to remove the 9cm tumor he had under his arm and begin chemotherapy. However, this week we learned that the treatment is not working; new tumors have been found in the same area. He needs specialized professional help do to how rare this type of cancer is, which is not available in the small town where they live. Therefore, they will have to travel frequently to Santiago, the capital, which is a 12-hour drive from their home.
We don't know the exact costs associated with the travel, treatments, and everything else that will be needed, but this cancer is aggressive and fast-growing, so it will require various treatments.
My father is a wonderful person, always ready to help others. He has always lived a healthy lifestyle, in touch with nature, and deeply spiritual. Three years ago, he left his formal job of 35 years to fulfill his dream of living in the countryside with my mother. It hasn't been easy. In February 2024, they were affected by a wildfire that spread along the coast of the Region de los Lagos, but fortunately, they didn't lose much, and their spirits remained high until the onset of this illness.
I am grateful for every act of kindness and support you can offer.
