Support Claudia's Hospice and Medical Bills

My name is Wayne Rouse and I'm wanting to raise money for medical & hospice bills. On Sunday, December 29, 2024, my wife Claudia suffered a fall from weakness and blood loss. We were unable to stop the bleeding, so we went to UNMC ER in Omaha. The doctors identified a mass in her pelvis; they scheduled emergency surgery on New Year's Eve. This surgery did not deal with the "mass," but rather addressed problems created by it. Claudia has been hospitalized since that time and is presently in hospice care.

The plan was for her to gain strength so that she could tolerate the treatment of radiation & chemo, which hopefully would shrink the mass, and then it could be operated on. Sadly, she has not gained strength; rather, she has continued to become weaker and weaker, and the surgeons have no alternative treatments. When we went to the ER, she was able to walk without assistance; now she is bedridden, unable to use her right arm or leg. She is also unable to speak or nod or gesture in any way to answer simple yes or no questions. She is even unable to drink through a straw. At present, she is sleeping more and more and not responding to any stimuli.

She has been in the hospital for four weeks, and I am unsure what the insurance will cover. Already, I've gotten denial letters that state some of the treatments were classified as palliative care and not covered. The big concern is hospice; while hospice care is covered, board and room are not. That out-of-pocket cost is $350 a day - I'll let that sink in. So, the out-of-pocket for hospice in Claudia's situation is $10,500 per month. Normally, I wouldn't come hat-in-hand, but this is bigger than me and the resources that I possess.
