Support Clarice Through Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease
Donation protected
Our two-year-old cat, Clarice, was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). This is an extremely rare case in such a young cat, and it is believed that she was born with it as her ultrasound showed kidney abnormalities. They also found that she is anemic and will require extra medication to maintain good quality of life. We were given a life expectancy of a few months, and she will need special food and IV treatments for the remainder of her life, as well as regular lab work to monitor her kidneys.
Diagnosing this condition was extremely costly, as it required her to be hospitalized for a day and several tests, leading to around $1000 in out-of-pocket costs. It is estimated that each bag of food will cost $65, the IV treatments will cost $35 per bag (about 2 bags per week), and $70 for medicine to maintain the anemia that she has developed. Additionally, each round of lab work will cost around $150 per visit.
She is truly one of the sweetest and most loving cats, obsessed with greeting everyone at the door and trapping them for hours by sleeping on their laps. When we adopted her, we did not think that we would find such a perfect kitty, but she was exactly what we needed. She has been a constant source of emotional support during hard times, laughter during good times, and cuddles all the time.
One of her owners, Amanda, works full time, while the other, Elise, works around 30 hours per week while being enrolled in graduate school full time. While we are able to pay for some of these costs, the rest of Clarice's life will have many regular expenses. At this stage in her disease, she is not in any pain and it has been recommended that we keep her at home in a familiar environment to make her transition as easy as possible, so rehoming her is not an option. Unfortunately, we also need to prepare for end-of-life costs depending on the progression of her disease.
To keep Clarice as comfortable as possible for the remainder of her life and to help her owners offset the costs of her needs, we would appreciate any amount that you are able to give.
