On March 23, 2015, I sustained a back injury while at work as a truck driver. I went to open the trailer door at my delivery location only to realize it was stuck. This caused the door to become difficult to open, and while doing so, I injured my back. Initially, the doctors advised that I had a lumbar sprain. I was prescribed painkillers and put on desk duty. I continued to go to my appointments as scheduled, but the pain was not getting any better.
A doctor was coming in behind me at one appointment, not knowing that I was going to be her patient. When she came in the room and realized it was me, she immediately advised that I needed an MRI. That MRI led to me having three back surgeries in two years; I had two laminectomies and one spinal fusion. I was able to walk into the hospital for the last surgery (spinal fusion) in 2017 but was not able to walk out.
Fast forward to 2025, I have gained a lot of strength in my core and feelings in my legs with continuous physical and occupational therapy. I can even move my feet and toes some! Although those are great accomplishments, I’m still unable to walk. However, I celebrate all the victories, big and small. I continue to have faith that I will regain my mobility and walk again.
I have been presented, by my doctor, an opportunity to try Stem Cell Therapy in Panama City, Panama. This infusion therapy will be given in hopes to help me walk again or at least help me progress to that goal. Unfortunately, Stem Cell Therapy is not covered by insurance, so this will be an out-of-pocket expense. Because I must travel with a caregiver, my wife will need to take a leave of absence from her job to travel with me.
I am asking for assistance to help cover the cost for treatment, travel, and miscellaneous expenses. No amount is too small, and all donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and your help.
With Gratitude,
Clarence Dawson
