Hi! My name is Claire Smith, and I’m a student at Emerson College making my first short film.

It’s a bloody action comedy about fangirls, fandom, and the lie of “growing out of it.” After ghosting her friends, our main character is confronted when they show up uninvited at her doorstep for a sleepover. She turns them away, insisting she’s matured out of her “immature” fangirl phase- but things escalate quickly. A brutal, campy brawl ensues, and the truth comes out: once a fangirl, always a fangirl.

I’ve realized that fandom isn’t a phase. It’s how I connect, create, and care. I’ve been a fangirl my entire life, and for a long time, people made me feel like that was something to grow out of or be embarrassed by. This film is about what happens when you stop pretending you’ve outgrown the parts of yourself that actually define you.
