Aloha!
My name is Avery Driscoll, and I have two dogs named CJ and Alvah. Unfortunately, CJ had to be rushed to the emergency vet on Friday, April 11th after he was getting sick very frequently over a short period of time. It turns out he had pancreatitis, and the vets did an amazing job with him. He is on the last of his prescribed probiotics at this point and is essentially fully recovered.
I have Embrace Pet Insurance and after the bill came I submitted a claim to be reimbursed. For CJ alone, I put in a little over $100 a month so that these things are covered. It came back denied, and they claimed that his pre-existing exclusion of diarrhea excludes him from coverage. The last time he got diarrhea was April 20th of 2024, and that was from an infection that was in his neck. He had cysts and swelling, and also had diarrhea. For some reason, that claim back then, even though he had diarrhea as well, was covered, and I got reimbursed for it, and it did not seem to be an issue. They claimed that it has not been a year since his last bout of diarrhea, and that is what was necessary for the claim to be covered. 11 months and 20 days for something that is not remotely related to what he had to go through a week ago. Had he got pancreatitis today (4/21) instead, he might've been covered.
I am asking for help, and those who know me know that I never do this, but this bill comes at a terrible time and any assistance would be a tremendous help. I knew human insurance companies were the devil reincarnate, but I guess it goes for any insurance company that exists at all. If money donated goes over that $2,200, it will be donated to help other pet owners in need. Mahalo nui loa.
With love,
Avery, CJ, and Alvah
