Support Cindy's Recovery and Medical Costs
Donation protected
Hello friends and fam! For those who may not know, my mother, Cindy, fell and broke her arm on June 16th, while setting up a pool so her and my dad could relax on their anniversary. Yes, she broke her arm on their anniversary. She had surgery on July 1st and her recovery is going well. She started physical therapy this week and will continue physical therapy for 6 weeks. The good news is she’s doing well and has been vigilant with her at-home exercises and is taking it easy. The bad news (besides breaking her arm) is that she’s been unable to work since her fall. She will likely not be cleared to work for at least 6 more weeks which will be a total of 14 weeks without pay. Since she didn’t fall at work, it’s not covered under workers comp, and Florida does not offer short term disability or the option of her to be on Medicaid. She has been able to pay bills up to this point, and has applied for food stamps, but is awaiting her appointment. I was fortunate enough to be able to go to Florida prior and during her surgery to help with some things so her and my dad could be set up for the success of her recovery. With help from my sister Katrina, we were able to get her tools to make it easier to function with just one working arm. Mom has received financial support from some family and a few friends, but those few have already sacrificed so much it’s difficult for them to continue helping. My husband and I are in the thick of a fertility journey, with 2 failed rounds of IVF, and thousands of dollars invested; and this is just the beginning for us. I'm asking, out of humility for myself, to please consider donating to help my mom with continued medical costs. We’re grateful she has insurance, but she is not of Medicare age so her insurance only goes so far. She has a copay for every doctor visit and every physical therapy appointment. My dad is working overtime to cover as many bills as he can, but eventually my mom’s lack of employment will catch up to them.
My mom is a very proud and independent woman who does not like asking for help. She is eager to get back to work, not just for the money, but because she really misses her customers, and being more physically active. My mom has worked at Jeremiah’s Restaurant in Mount Dora for over 30 years. She is a very dedicated, hard-working employee. I can attest to this because I worked with her for 3 months and was humbled. I couldn’t do what she does, especially for 30 years.
No one expects to help their parents when they’re in their 60s and parents in their 60s never want to have to rely on their children or anyone for help.
Thank you for taking time to read this, donating if you’re able, and sharing this. I will keep everyone updated as to her progress. If you don’t feel comfortable donating through this platform please reach out to me privately and we can discuss other options. Also, if you’re unable to donate please feel free to send my mom a word of encouragement through text message. I would be happy to provide her phone number through a private message.
