Update: Due to everyone’s generosity so far they have been able to get the basement cleaned out and the flooring on the main floor removed and the sub floors dried. They still have a ways to go to be able to move back into the house including getting the walls in the basement fixed and all the flooring on the main floor replaced, but they wanted to thank everyone for their generosity so far.

Update: with the help of family and friends we were able to get the furniture and belongings from the basement but very few items were able to be salvaged. She lost everything but a few Christmas ornaments and decorations. Pictures show what her basement currently looks like. So much work still needs to be done including removing all her flooring from the main floor as the water seeped into her subfloor from the flooding in the basement. Please consider donating if you are able to.
My sister Cindy and her husband, Gary, experienced devastating flooding from the storm that hit Southeast Wisconsin on August 9th. Their basement wall collapsed from all the water running down the side yard of their home in Muskego, flooding their basement from floor to ceiling. Not only did the wall collapse, but it also caused the back wall in the basement to shift 3 inches. Their basement is currently covered in mud and everything is destroyed, from personal items to their hot water heater and furnace, and they have not been able to return home. Unfortunately, because Muskego is not considered a flood plain, they were not able to add flood insurance to their policy, so most of the damage will not be covered by insurance. They have experienced flooding issues for the 12 years they have lived there (getting no help from the city of Muskego), but nothing to this magnitude. They have spent tens of thousands of dollars on upgrades to stop these issues, but nothing could have saved them from what happened on August 9th.
Anyone who knows Cindy and Gary knows that they will be one of the first people to help when anyone needs it. I’m hoping to ease some of the burden they are now facing with this request. If you can donate – any amount helps – it would mean the world to this family.
