My name is Katie and I'm here to ask for your support as my dear friend and soul sister Ciera faces the most challenging time in her life.

For starters, Ciera is a mother of FIVE yes 5 beautiful children! And a newly divorced, single mom. If life was not already challenging enough, another curve ball was sent her way.

Ciera has been recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of Acute Leukemia (featuring both B-cell and Myeloid types). This was discovered during routine prenatal screenings, it was initially understood that the baby may face some genetic challenges though the reality was much worse than what we thought.

After amniocentesis confirmed the baby was perfectly healthy the focus was turned to Ciera and trying to figure out what was going on. In this rush for answers the Leukemia was diagnosed and a induction was scheduled because her treatment simply could not wait, as the blood work was getting worse and worse.

She has since given birth via emergency C-section to a healthy baby BOY! Baby Cash is currently under 24 hr care at the NICU (this birth in and of itself was very scary and traumatic for the whole family).

She will be, this week, getting surgery to install her port and begin chemo / radiation and eventually bone marrow transplants (also known as stem cell transplants) *if you would like to be screened to see if you are a match for blood and bone marrow PLEASE SEE THE LINK BELOW*

As you can imagine this is so scary and has come as a complete shock to Ciera; her family and her friends. It seems like there is no break in sight as her lymph nodes have now begun to swell and her daughter is facing new medical challenges of her own.

Ciera is asking for more prayers as her immune system is low, she completed her first round of chemo and has since been readmitted to the hospital for contracting COVID in the couple days she got to spend home.

Most of her days are being spent in the hospital or at doctors appointments at this stage. BUT she does get to go visit baby Cash a few floors down (he is growing stronger and stronger but still in the NICU until he gets the clear to have his feeding tube removed).

Her doctor has told her to remain hopeful but has been honest with her that this is a very rare and aggressive cancer she has only seen a handful of times, with a high rate of struggle to get those who suffer into remission.

This week her family and children will be getting to meet with her team to go over what to expect in the coming months and better understand her prognosis.

She is at the point now, having lost enough hair that she is planning on shaving her head next week with her children, letting them give her all the fun and silly cuts in the process (yes, micro bangs, mohawk, 2000s bob and whatever other super cuts magazine styles they can conjure up) . To keep the experience light hearted for all of them.

She is also struggling with allergic reactions to the adhesive holding her port on her chest and is hoping to have that resolved soon!
